“Take me down in to the heat, into the sound” ( “Midnight Angels” / The Peepshows).
The Swedish rock´n´roll scene was rising strongly and the whole sound was like a totally new thing. But it wasn’t, it had only been kept in darkness for years, waiting to get unleashed. Now with The Hellacopters in the frontline the beginning of the `Swedish sound´ was born (with all respect to Nomads). New rock´n´roll combos who wanted to make some serious noise was popping up everywhere. Also our neighbors Norway got some serious shit coming in the way of Gluecifer
and the mighty Turbonegro.
Meanwhile in the city of Örebro, Mange Heartbreaker a.k.a Magnus Hägerås and Oswald -two friends long time back- got plans to start something new. Bored with the lame less situation with doing nothing at all, they decide to start a band. The goal was to play straight on punk/rock´n´ roll, no fuzz no mess. Said and done, in a less than a week the line-up was cleared. On vocals/guitar we got Oswald, second guitar played by Mr. Heartbreaker, Lurgo Peepshow (a veteran in the
Örebro music scene) punching the bass, and last but not Johnny Hunter a.k.a Johan Maelstrom on drums.
The band continue to rehearse and create more high energy punk´n´roll, and in the end of ´98 New York based 007 Records offer the band a 7" deal. Out came a two track single with a rough and raw production. The 7" get raving reviews in underground zines/magazines around the globe and the rumours about the Örebro combo start to spread.
A deal with Swedish Sidekicks Records (a sub-label to Burning Heart) was signed. Excited about the whole thing Oswald and the gang started prepare for new tasks. With a strong Turbonegro influence the band started to practice for the new songs to come. In March ´99 The Peepshows visited Soundlab Studios to record their by now classic MCD "Right About Now".Right about now where also released on 10" vinyl by the Spanish cult label Safety pin records. The "Right
About Now"
MCD was, Followed by a hellish European tour called "Swedish Nitro" together with label mates Puffball. In the end of the year they supported The Hellacopters for some dates in Sweden.
The album "Mondo Deluxe" was released in January, this time by Burning Heart Records. With full force the band proved that their previous MCD "Right About Now" was not just a lucky shot. The new album continues where "Right About Now" ended - an album full of high class punk´n´roll with a dark and beautiful edge, receiving overwhelming reviews in most of the European zines & magazines. Time was now getting closer for the recording of the new album. Once
again their steps was taken towards Soundlab Studios, with Mieszko Talarczyk (Nasum) and Mathias Färm (Millencolin) in the producing-chairs.
The bands second album "Today We Kill, Tomorrow We Die" was recorded and finished by the end of January. "Today We Kill, Tomorrow We Die" really wide from their early influences to more classic rock music as AC/DC and there’s even a hint of early Status Quo. The raw power, the melancholy darkness, the elegancy and the superb choruses - it’s all here. A video to the song “Surrender My Love” was also recorded and spread to TV-stations around Europe, and the
band continued to tour extensively. During those tours, their friend Henrik Wind from another Örebro-band The Strollers joined them playing organ / piano on stage. It turned out really well, and Henrik joined the band as The Peepshows fifth member which have made the Peepshows grow into a even better band than before.
The Peepshows is recording their new album “Refuge For Degenerates” at Studio Kuling together with producer Mieszko Talarczyk (Nasum). The vocals was produced by Nikola Sarcevic (Millencolin) that also sings backing vocals and co-lead vocals on the opening-track “In The Dirt”. The album is scheduled for release in January 2003. In Nov/Dec 2002, the band is touring Europe on the six-week long Heart Attack Tour together with label mates Bombshell Rocks and Raised Fist. With
over 300 live shows across Europe this far the Peepshows head into the year 2003 with the intension to tour even harder!
And what an album it is… “Refuge For Degenerates” is an album that from the first chord to the last is striving for the essence of Rock, and succeeds picking it off. It’s refuge for the degenerates 2003 given to you by The Peepshows. A video for the song 'Count Me Out' are shot in Stockholm Sweden in January. In mars the Peepshows hit the road with Millencolin for a five dates Scandinavian tour, followed by longer European tour in April with the Hellacopters.
In june the selftitled 8-track album on Stereodrive! Records is released, featuring 6 brand new really strong tracks and two classic covers, Flaming Groovies - 'Shake Some Action' and Radio Birdman - 'Murder City Nights'. While having their first real brake since the start begining in June, Henke Wind goes to Gothenburg to help Nikola Sarcevic (Millencolin) out with the recording of Nikola's first solo album. ...more to follow!
